Unbuilt
This single room library is an element of a larger un-built project for a public art gallery and artist’s private studio/residence. The interior volume of the library is contiguous with the public gallery’s space, yet it is contained within the private studio space. The tectonic expression of the membrane separating these spaces reinforces the programmatic overlap. A single plane made from polycarbonate panels, scored and bent, creates a sinuous shape. Threaded-rods, passed through the lexan’s hollow plastic core, affix the curved plane to vertical wooden members, giving the system structural rigidity while simultaneously providing shelving for the two spaces it defines.
