Residential Renovation  2009

Charlottesville, VA

The goal of this design/build renovation was to combine what was originally a single structure, divided into three separate rental units, into a single family home.

The goal was achieved through the transformation of the structure’s circulation. The new circulation formed a grand yet quietly modern centerpiece for the home. A monumental wall 2.5 inches wide made of tightly stacked yellow pine boards rises an impressive 14 feet high where it returns to form a substantial guard rail 12 inches thick.
