Echoes of Nature Sculpture Park

This site–specific installation was conceived as an exercise in the subtleties of demarcation. Using simple flagging tape, I ‘drew’ a perfectly planar square within this naturally formed wooded area adjacent to the pathway of an existing sculpture park. Each tree within an imagined 100 foot square in plan was marked at a level consistent with a flat plane ‘cutting through’ the forest. The viewer’s motion within and around the sculpture activates the tension between regular and random geometries.
The flagging tape, usually declaration of the impending removal of trees, here symbolizes the opposite — a framed piece of art: to be pondered and preserved.
