Individual Flag Specifications

Each flag in the project measures 32″ x 55″ and is made of a bright white cotton duck, and embroidered as necessary to represent the 192 member states of the United Nations.

The flags follow the UN convention of sharing similar proportions to maintain unity.

Installation Type 1: TENT

This display, supported by the existing modular structure pictured here, can be installed in varying outdoor locations allowing the flags to hang in any weather.

Like a tent welcoming all visitors, one can find peaceful refuge within the clearings amongst the flags. These spaces, defined by an ever-changing interplay of art and nature are wonderful areas for both individual contemplation as well as group interaction.

Arranging them according to their graphic similarities eliminates hierarchies amongst the flags. Click here to see an example of such a layout.

Dimensions of the full TENT installation = 72ft x 52ft

Installation Type 2: CLOUD

Suitable for large indoor spaces, this formation is intended to allow all 192 flags to hang together in unity, within a minimum of 2500 sq. ft. (50ft x 50ft).

Installation Type 3:  STAGE BACKDROP

Another possible configuration for the installation is as a stage backdrop. Lighting behind that can be faded on or off, provides this configuration to communicate the fact that the flags can be read as either different individual flags, or as similarly white flags (pictured bottom left).
